Odense Teater is the second oldest theatre in Denmark, and when they wanted a new look thus still reflecting on their old slogan, we made a very special film to accommodate their wishes. The film was based of a photo, consisting of a man, looking in the mirror and the arts looking back – and the job was to make the photo come alive.
The main prop of the production was the mirror, which prompted a series of effects to create the image of a man watching the arts staring back at him and acting out on the other side mirror. To create the mirror effect, we had to block the scene in a different way, suspending the mirror instead of laying on the floor as the original picture depicted. In this way we could truly show the story of the man meeting the arts, getting scared and being out of sync with the presented reflection, before finally realizing, that he is a part of the art – and when he is able to see the recognizable features in the reflection, he himself turns calm.
A big part of the production took part in collaboration with the theatre’s stagehands, working out a very special light design, which were able to advance the structure of the film and creating a backdrop with extra dynamic and dramatic lightning when the man and the art is out of sync and a softer, welcoming, understanding life, when the man finally understood, that it is in the arts, we recognize life.
