Danmarks Forsorgsmuseum wanted to tell a moving story and add an extra layer to their exhibition, “Syv Fattige Børn”. The project became a hybrid: on one side the project is acting as an art installation, being projected onto the wall as a part of the exhibition, but at the same time we were creating a piece of fiction, telling the story of a gloomy and fatigued part of Denmark’s history and everyday life.
One of the key words in creating such a project was emotions – telling a historically based story but furthermost creating an emotional bond with the featured characters. Because of the film surroundings, consisting mainly of very factual writings, the films’ primary job was to evoke an emotional response from the audience, thus doing so by focusing on creating very intense scenes.
For instance, this is being done by strong conceptualization, where the movements in the scenes are limiting and therefore the viewers eyes are guided towards the faces of children and actors. The sound design also tickles the sentiment of the viewer, by preceding the visuals and creating an additionally engagement in the life of the Seven Poor Children.
